Kitchen Remodel Cost in Albuquerque: Three Budgets, Explained by the Shop That Builds It

What a kitchen remodel costs in Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, and Santa Fe in 2026, broken into three real budgets: countertop-only, reface plus countertop, and full custom. $25,000–$75,000 per full remodel for a full remodel.

"How much does a kitchen remodel cost?" has three honest answers, because there are three different projects hiding inside the question. Here they are, with real Albuquerque numbers and where each dollar goes.

Budget one: countertop only

$2,475 – $6,600, one day on site. Replace the tile, laminate, or dated stone with granite or quartz on the existing cabinets. Add an undermount sink and a new faucet. Often a new backsplash. This is the highest-impact dollar in an Albuquerque kitchen, because the cabinets in most Heights and Westside houses are fine and the top is the whole difference. See countertop replacement.

Budget two: reface plus countertop

$5,775 – $16,400, two to five days on site. Keep the plywood boxes, replace every door and drawer front, veneer the frames, new soft-close hardware, and a new stone top. The kitchen reads as entirely new, the layout stays, no permits, and the kitchen is usable through most of it. For a house with sound boxes and a layout that works, this is the smartest remodel we do. See cabinet refacing.

Budget three: full custom remodel

$25,000–$75,000 per full remodel, six to ten weeks total, two to three on site. New custom cabinets built to the room, a new layout if you want one, countertop in any material, and coordination of plumbing, electrical, tile, and paint. This is the project when the boxes have met water, the layout is wrong, or you want the island, the pantry wall, and the uppers to the ceiling. See kitchen remodeling.

Why one shop changes the number

Cabinets and countertops are more than half the total, and in most remodels they come from two companies with two schedules and a gap between them. We build the cabinets in our Edgewood shop, set them, template the stone against them that day, and cut it in the same building. One schedule, one invoice, one person to call. It removes a handoff, a markup, and the week your kitchen sits torn out waiting for the second crew.

What moves a kitchen toward the top of the range

  • Stain-grade hickory, rift oak, or walnut instead of paint-grade maple.
  • Inset doors with exposed hinges.
  • A twelve-foot island in book-matched quartzite with waterfall ends.
  • Moving the sink, the range, or a wall.
  • Soffit removal and uppers to a ten-foot ceiling.
  • Full-height stone backsplash.
  • A separate bar or butler’s pantry.

What keeps it toward the bottom

  • Keeping the layout and the plumbing where they are.
  • Painted Shaker in maple.
  • An entry-level granite or a mid-range quartz.
  • Refacing the perimeter and building only the island new.
  • Tile backsplash instead of stone.

Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, Santa Fe: does the city change it?

The ranges are the same across the metro. Santa Fe projects skew toward the top because people choose stain-grade woods, distinctive slabs, and furniture-style details, and because old adobe walls take longer to scribe to. Rio Rancho projects skew toward budget two, because the houses are newer and the boxes are sound. The East Mountains have the shortest timelines because the shop is there.

How a project runs with us

  1. Call or send the form. Jesus answers, asks what you are trying to do, and books a time to come measure.
  2. On-site measurement and a straight conversation. We look at the room, the plumbing, the walls, and how you cook. If a material is wrong for your situation, this is where we say so.
  3. One written number. Template, fabrication, tear-out, install, haul-away, sealing. No per-item surprises after the fact.
  4. Slab or sample approval. For natural stone you see the actual slab and where the cuts land. For cabinets you approve a door sample and a finish chip.
  5. Fabrication in Edgewood. Cabinets built and finished in the shop. Countertops laser-templated once the cabinets are set and level, then cut on the CNC and polished.
  6. Install by the same crew. The people who measured are the people who build and the people who install. One point of contact from first visit to final walkthrough.

Countertop-only projects typically run one to two weeks from template to install. Full cabinet packages run four to eight weeks depending on wood and finish. A complete kitchen remodel is usually six to ten weeks once materials are approved.

FAQ

Questions We Get Asked

What is the biggest line item in a kitchen remodel?

Cabinets, almost always, followed by countertops. Together they are usually more than half the total. That is why hiring one shop that does both changes the number and the schedule.

Can I remodel in stages?

Yes, and it is often smart: countertop now, reface or new cabinets next year. If you plan it with us up front, the countertop can be templated to work with the future cabinet plan.

Do I need a permit for a kitchen remodel in Albuquerque?

Not for cabinets and countertops in place. Moving plumbing, adding circuits, or removing walls generally requires one. We tell you at the design stage.
