The advantage of one shop doing both
Most kitchen remodels involve at least two companies who have never worked together: someone who installs cabinets and someone else who fabricates stone. When the countertop does not sit flat, or the overhang is uneven, or the seam lands in the wrong place, each one explains why it is the other one’s fault. You are left holding a quarter-inch gap and two phone numbers.
We build the cabinets and we cut the stone. The tops are templated against cabinets we set and leveled ourselves. If something is off, it is ours to fix, and there is no one to point at. That is the entire reason we run both sides of the shop.
How a project actually runs
- Consultation and measure. We walk your kitchen, talk about how you actually use it, and take real measurements. You get a written estimate with visible line items.
- Design and selection. Layout, cabinet style and wood, countertop material and edge. You see the slab before we cut it.
- Build. Cabinetry is built in our Edgewood shop while your existing kitchen stays usable. This is the longest phase and it happens without disrupting you.
- Demo and install. Old cabinets and tops come out, new cabinetry goes in, gets leveled and secured. We contain dust and clean up daily.
- Template and top. Countertops are laser-templated against the installed cabinets, then fabricated and set.
- Punch list and walkthrough. We walk it with you and fix what is on your list, not what is on ours.
Where the money actually goes
If your boxes are structurally sound and the layout works, refacing plus new countertops delivers most of the visual transformation for a fraction of a full rebuild. If the layout is the problem — a cramped corner, no landing space beside the range, an island that blocks the traffic path — then new cabinetry is what actually solves it, and refacing just makes the old problem look nicer. We will tell you which one you are in before you spend anything.
How we build cabinets
Custom does not mean expensive for its own sake. It means the box is built to the wall you actually have, in the increment you actually need, rather than the closest three-inch stock size plus a filler strip. In a region where very few walls are square and ceiling heights change room to room, that is usually the difference between a kitchen that looks fitted and one that looks installed.
- Boxes. Three-quarter-inch plywood, not particleboard. Particleboard that has met water once — a slow dishwasher leak, a sink trap drip — swells and never recovers. Plywood survives it.
- Doors and drawer fronts. Shaker, flat-slab, raised panel, or inset. Paint-grade maple or poplar, stain-grade alder, hickory, oak, or walnut. Knotty alder is the regional favorite for a reason: it takes a warm stain and hides the dings of a real household.
- Hardware. Soft-close hinges and full-extension undermount drawer slides as standard. Not an upgrade.
- Finish. Sprayed in the shop, not brushed on site. Conversion varnish over stain, or a catalyzed enamel over paint. It is the difference between a finish that holds up to fifteen years of hands and one that chips at the pulls in two.
- Layout. Drawers where you reach down, doors where you reach up. Pull-outs for trash and spices. A pantry that uses the full height of the wall. This is the part that makes a kitchen work, and it is the part a catalog cannot do.
Typical installed pricing runs $350–$900 per linear ft installed depending on wood species, door style, and how much of the run is drawers. Full details on custom cabinets →
Choosing a countertop material in central New Mexico
Most people arrive with a material already in mind. We will fabricate whatever you choose, but we are also going to tell you where each one struggles, because the climate here is not neutral. Big south- and west-facing windows are common here, and high-altitude UV is harder on resin binders than it is on natural stone. Water across the metro runs hard, which spots dark polished surfaces and argues for keeping natural stone properly sealed.
- Granite — $55–$95 per sq ft installed. Igneous stone, every slab unique, indifferent to heat and sun. Needs sealing every one to three years. The default recommendation for sunrooms, outdoor bars, and anyone who cooks hard.
- Quartz — $65–$120 per sq ft installed. Engineered, non-porous, never sealed, consistent from sample to slab. The default for busy family kitchens and for anyone who will not think about maintenance. Keep it out of direct all-day sun.
- Marble — $75–$150 per sq ft installed. The most beautiful stone we cut and the softest. Perfect for vanities, fireplace surrounds, and a baking station. Etches from acids in a working kitchen, and we will say so.
- Quartzite — $85–$160 per sq ft installed. Natural stone that reads like marble and wears like granite. The answer when someone wants a white veined top in a kitchen that actually gets used.
Every one of those is templated, cut, and polished in our shop at 2369 Old Hwy 66, Edgewood, NM 87015, which is why we can hold a seam tight and keep an overhang even. You can see the full breakdown on our pricing guide.
Why hiring one shop for cabinets and countertops matters in New Mexico
Most remodels in New Mexico involve two companies who have never met: one sets cabinets, another fabricates stone. When the countertop does not sit flat, each explains why it is the other’s fault, and you are left holding a gap, a tube of caulk, and two phone numbers.
We run both sides under one roof. Cabinets are set and leveled by our crew, then the countertop is templated against those cabinets, cut in the same building, and installed by the same people. If something is off, it is ours, and there is nobody to point at. That is not a slogan. It is the reason the business is structured this way, and it is the reason the seams line up.
It also has a practical scheduling benefit. One contractor means one calendar, so cabinets and tops land in sequence instead of leaving your kitchen torn out for a week while a second company finds an opening.
How a project runs with us
- Call or send the form. Jesus answers, asks what you are trying to do, and books a time to come measure.
- On-site measurement and a straight conversation. We look at the room, the plumbing, the walls, and how you cook. If a material is wrong for your situation, this is where we say so.
- One written number. Template, fabrication, tear-out, install, haul-away, sealing. No per-item surprises after the fact.
- Slab or sample approval. For natural stone you see the actual slab and where the cuts land. For cabinets you approve a door sample and a finish chip.
- Fabrication in Edgewood. Cabinets built and finished in the shop. Countertops laser-templated once the cabinets are set and level, then cut on the CNC and polished.
- Install by the same crew. The people who measured are the people who build and the people who install. One point of contact from first visit to final walkthrough.
Countertop-only projects typically run one to two weeks from template to install. Full cabinet packages run four to eight weeks depending on wood and finish. A complete kitchen remodel is usually six to ten weeks once materials are approved.

Kitchen Remodeling Questions
How long does a kitchen remodel take?
For a cabinet-and-countertop remodel without moving plumbing or walls, plan on roughly three to five weeks from demo to final walkthrough. Custom cabinetry is the long pole — it is built for you, and that build time is real. Countertops are templated after cabinets are set and installed about one to two weeks later. Jobs that move gas, plumbing, or load-bearing walls run longer because of trade scheduling and inspections. We give you a written schedule up front and tell you the days your kitchen is genuinely out of service.
How much does a kitchen remodel cost in Albuquerque?
It swings widely, and anyone who quotes a number before seeing your kitchen is guessing. The drivers are square footage, whether cabinetry is refaced or fully rebuilt, the countertop material, and whether anything mechanical moves. A refacing-plus-new-tops project is a fraction of a full gut with relocated plumbing. We come out, measure, and give you one written estimate with the line items visible so you can see exactly where the money goes and what you could adjust.
Can I use my kitchen during the remodel?
Partially. There is a stretch between cabinet demo and countertop install where the sink and range are genuinely out. We tell you which days those are in advance so you can plan — most clients set up a temporary microwave and coffee station elsewhere in the house. We seal off the work area to control dust and we clean up daily.
Do you handle plumbing and electrical?
We coordinate the full job. Cabinetry and countertops we build and install ourselves; licensed trades handle gas, plumbing, and electrical where the scope calls for it, scheduled by us so you are not chasing four contractors. You get one point of contact and one schedule.
